GOATS…Are you kidding me!!

We would never have thought we would own a goat let alone raise them. In the spring of 2003, the journey began. Living on 35 acres, ag status property, the decision was made that the property would remain ag status. In order to do that, grazing animals would need to be raised and sold. Cattle weren't an option because of the number of acres needed per pair. A crazy, but very generous friend, Preston called and said he had bought us something. I'll be. It was a dairy goat with 2 buck kids. Ok, the decision was made that we were going to raise goats. Not wanting to be stuck milking, he indicated his dad in OK raised these Boer Goats. So I started to watch the newspaper for does. We bought 3 % doelings that spring, kept 1 of the dairy bucks to see what it was like to have kids. When the kids were born, the temperature raised a couple of degrees (the temperature had nothing to do with the climate, but the long lasting goat bug). The decision was made to get rid of the dairy buck and to get a Boer buck and more % doelings. A few years later, the fever was at 104. Off we went to the National Western Stock Show to see what the Boer goats were really like and the next day we had a 30' gooseneck trailer pulling in the yard dropping off our 1st Fullblood buck from Texas . After the death of this buck, I got high speed internet and off I went. The internet took me to Stroud, OK to buy a buck by the name "Worth the Money". I don't know if he was, but a fever will make you do some crazy things. Well, another decision was made that we were going to raise 4H/Jackpot wethers. 1st year out, we had the Grand Champion wether at Adams County and Boulder County fairs. All the years I was in 4H, I never got close to even being the Championship round. We have done some showing of the Fullblood goats in the IBGA & ABGA shows and have made some great friends and met some really great people. One of my closest friends is Erica Ashby from Austin, Co (Kickin A Ranch), whom we met at the NWSS a couple years ago. A few months later, we met this gal from Scottsbluff , NE , Gloria Floyd (Nebraska Boer Goats). Gloria is one that I truly admire and have a great deal of respect for. When Gloria speaks, I listen. Last year was our last purchase. It was a buck from Nebraska Boer Goats. Captain Jack, a son of Captain Marvel and 108 doe of Greg & Gloria's. What an amazing buck. We are expecting great things from him in the future!!
